Giving back

A large part of what we do here at the Grey Barn is giving back. We are fortunate to have the ability to share with others in our community both here on Martha's Vineyard and further afield.

West tisbury & Chilmark school Lunch program

A nutritious and delicious school lunch is the foundation for the stamina to study and learn for the entire day. Going hungry to class makes it hard to focus. Jenny, the chef at the West Tisbury School, has created the most amazing school lunch program. She sources local ingredients including our cheese, eggs, vegetables and meat as well as products from many of the island's other farmers. Follow her 'Up-Island Lunch Lady' instagram to see the amazing things she does for our kids. Thanks Jenny!

sheriffs meadow foundation

Working together with Sheriff's Meadow Foundation, we are helping to conserve the natural, beautiful, rural landscape and character of Martha‚Äôs Vineyard for present and future generations. We are renovating and restoring some of the historically agricultural properties held by this foundation. Our relationship is bringing a part of the islands farming traditions back to life. Follow them on Instagram and look to this summer of 2018 when they will be releasing a new FREE app called TrailsMV.

Serving Hands and Family to Family Baskets

Betty Burton is an amazing woman. She organizes food baskets for those on our island who are less fortunate than us. As producers of food we understand that the cost of real food is high. When we can make a donation, we take cheese and meat to the Serving Hands monthly food distribution. We hope that this little bit can brighten someone's day and help to keep them healthy.

4-H Marthas vineyard livestock club

I don't know if you know but we have been working with The Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Society to develop a 4H club. The club is for 11-18 year olds interested in raising livestock. The group will be meeting on Tuesdays.

Our first meeting is on Tuesday, April 3 @ 5pm at our farm.

Program for Year 1: Raising, training and caring for sheep. Students will enjoy selecting an ewe to call their own. They will learn how to halter train them, feed them and care for them. They will be expected to attend 1 monthly meeting and attend to their animal at least 1x per week. The weekly sessions will be run by parent volunteers. Parent volunteers will be taught what needs to be completed at each weekly caring session. Asa will be available at these weekly meetings to help guide the parents and students.

Martha's Vineyard Little League

Martha's Vineyard Little League is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching kids the fundamentals of baseball in a safe and fun environment. This amazing organization teaches kids to work as a team and really helps them build their self confidence. We sponsor a team every year and this year, we are also sponsoring a Babe Ruth team.
