Chickens & Ducks
Our chickens, all 300 of them, roam around on our pastures and woods every day, 365 days a year.
Strong willed and not scared of hawks, our chickens enjoy the good life eating up all the bugs and insects they can find. By moving them everyday along with the cows they have fresh cow patties to play in and they do a great job of spreading the manure across the farm. They also help us keep a check on the flies, ticks and other pests we have here. Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, New Hampshire Reds and Araucanas currently make up the flock.
Our little group of ducks wander around the farmstand and orchard in search of bugs. This group of ducks and one turkey (yes, we seriously have a turkey that thinks he is a duck and his name is Tom if you were wondering) stick tight together and bring quite a bit humor to our days. In the warmer part of the year they lay eggs that are amazing to cook if you can find where they laid them but in the winter they take a break and just goof around.
